90th Oscars

While at least one the nominees for Best Picture has an obvious Catholic angle, the other nominees touch on themes that will resonate with Catholics and other believers: love, reconciliation, brokenness and our human longing to be known. But whether you find these themes compelling or just appreciate good cinema, there is a lot to recommend in this year’s nominees.

Before you watch the Academy Awards this Sunday night, join film critic John Anderson, culture writer Bill McGarvey and America editors Eloise Blondiau and Eric Sundrup, S.J. as they explore the religious and artistic themes in the Oscar contenders.
