An Oklahoma farmer, Stanley Francis Rother, is the first U.S.-born priest to be declared blessed. In Santiago Atitlán, Guatemala, the village Father Rother served for the final 13 years of his life, the people remember and honor a faithful priest, a farmer who plowed the fields alongside them, a shepherd who proclaimed the Gospel with his life, a courageous man who chose to remain with them even when violence threatened—and eventually took—his life.

Father Pedro Arrupe, S.J., was superior general of the Society of Jesus from 1965 until 1983. Born in 1907 and ordained a Jesuit priest in 1936, Father Arrupe in his role as Superior General helped lead the Jesuits through the tumultuous years following the Second Vatican Council, and was instrumental in promoting a new mission for the Jesuits in terms of "a faith that does justice." He was beloved by many for his spiritual depth, compassion, and devotion to the Catholic faith and its apostolic works. He died in 1991. In 2018, Jesuit Superior General Arturo Sosa, S.J., announced that Father Arrupe's cause for canonization had begun.
