These are transformative times at America Media. Since I announced last year that I will step down as America’s editor in chief at the end of this month, I have taken some time to reflect on America’s past, present and future.

When John Wynne, S.J., opened the office of America 1909, he had a simple yet daring vision: to create a media ministry that would give Catholics a voice in the public debate in the United States. Today, America stands on the shoulders of giants like Father Wynne. Yet while the mission he articulated remains our Northern Star, the church and the world around us have changed dramatically.

Sensing that America needed to modernize due to the digital age while holding true to its mission, we set out in 2012 to transform America, taking a weekly print magazine into a multi-platform, digital-first media world. Now, in addition to our 113-year old print magazine, America publishes news and analysis multiple times per day online and through our daily newsletter.

There is no doubt that this transformation will continue at America under the leadership of Traug Keller, president, and Father Sam Sawyer, S.J., 15th editor in chief, but we need your support to help America continue to lead a charitable, informed conversation and debate among people who sometimes disagree—a smart, Catholic take on faith and culture.

There is no doubt that this transformation will continue at America under the leadership of Traug Keller, president, and Father Sam Sawyer, S.J., 15th editor in chief, but we need your support.

Your tax-deductible contribution will enable the transformation to continue, and signals to our staff that you believe in their hard work to continue Father Wynne’s vision, this year and always. And this year, Giving Tuesday gifts will be matched, doubling your impact.

Here’s how you can be part of our efforts:

Your gift today - of any size - will help America continue to tell the stories and ask the questions that matter most. Donate today to join us in transformation.

Thank you for your support and generosity.

Sincerely Yours In Christ,

Rev. Matthew F. Malone, S.J.
14th editor in chief
