Meg Kissinger traveled across the country for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reporting on the fractured mental health system. She taught investigative reporting at Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and is a trainer for the school’s Dart Center on Journalism and Trauma. She is a Pulitzer Prize finalist and was honored with two George Polk awards, the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award and the American Bar Association’s Silver Gavel. Her book, While You Were Out: An Intimate Family Portrait of Mental Illness in an Era of Silence, was a New York Times Editors’ Choice and was listed as one of the top 20 memoirs of 2023 by Audible, Amazon and Goodreads.
