The lower house of Argentina's congress on Thursday approved a bill that would legalize elective abortion in the first 14 weeks of pregnancy, sending the measure to the Senate. President Mauricio Macri has said he will sign the bill if it's approved.

The case became moot after the teen obtained an abortion.

Louisiana and Mississippi would have the earliest abortion bans in the country if the law is upheld.

Bishop Brendan Leahy of Limerick told Massgoers on May 26 that the result "is deeply regrettable and chilling for those of us who voted 'no.'"
