To keep silent about the truths of the Catholic faith or to teach the contrary is a form of religious deception that comes from the anti-Christ, said Cardinal Gerhard Muller.

A 75-year-old Swiss priest, the Rev. Xavier Arbex, who has lived and worked in Peru for over 40 years, has said that little has changed since Pope Francis' visit a year ago. The priest has decried the abuse done to people as well as the environment.

Religious leaders hope the latest peace deal will bring an end to attacks on churches and mosques.

"As I see it, this problem is rooted in our society's broader loss of the awareness of God," the archbishop said.
