San Diego Bishop Robert McElroy has sent a letter saying there is no basis in Catholic teaching to offer a religious exemption for COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Supreme Court announced Aug. 12 that it will not hear an appeal from a group of students at Indiana University who are opposed to the university’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate.

While the Holy See continues to dialogue with the Chinese government, the church is proud of Catholics who have held on to their faith in the country, said Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican secretary of state.

The New York State Catholic Conference urged Catholics to join Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan and other bishops in praying for Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul as she prepares to succeed Gov. Andrew Cuomo.
