Early reports from the holiday weekend indicate that The Interview performed strongly online. NBC News reported that the controversial film was rented or sold through online outlets more than 2 million times.  That netted Sony more than $15 million dollars and was the studio's highest selling movie online ever. Despite only being released in 331 independent theaters the movie grossed close to $3 million and they were finding numerous sellouts across the US.

Not bad for a film that had initially been derailed by what the FBI believes were North Korean hackers who threatened violence if it opened in theaters.

I took the path of least resistance (and danger) by ordering it online. Though it could be argued that giving your credit card information to a company that has just been so publically hacked is a far more threatening proposition.
