Fr. Ryan J. Maher, S.J., currently in a leadership role at the University of Scranton, has been named the new president at Scranton Preparatory School, one of the two Jesuit high schools in Pennsylvania. The Scranton Times-Tribune has the story:

Prior to his role at the University of Scranton, the Rev. Maher worked for 11 years as an administrator and professor at Georgetown. For two of those years, he was the assistant dean and a member of the founding faculty of the Georgetown School of Foreign Service in the nation of Qatar.

Born and raised in Phoenix, he also served as an English teacher at Gonzaga College High School in Washington, D.C., and at Saint Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia. He has served on Prep’s board of trustees for the last three years.

The Rev. Maher entered the Jesuit order in 1986, and was ordained a Jesuit priest in 1997. He holds a doctorate in private school administration from the University of San Francisco. He will succeed the Rev. Herbert B. Keller, S.J., who announced in September that he is stepping down after 18 years as president.
