Pope Leo XIV urged new archbishops to help him foster unity in a church rich in diversity. Eight of those new archbishops are from the United States, and they spoke to Catholic News Service about how they can help promote fraternity in today’s polarized world.

"The whole church needs fraternity, which must be present in all of our relationships, whether between lay people and priests, priests and bishops, bishops and the pope," he said during his homily at Mass on the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul June 29.

“Keeping our gaze on Jesus, we must learn to give a name and voice even to sadness, fear, anguish, indignation, bringing everything into relationship with God,” Pope Leo said.

Pope Leo XIV will bring back the tradition of the pope spending two weeks of the summer at Castel Gandolfo, the papal summer residence.

Every papal diplomat around the world must let people know that the Catholic Church is always on the side of the marginalized and is ready to face everything “out of love,” Pope Leo XIV said.

Later this year, the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors will deliver a “Universal Guidelines Framework for Safeguarding,” exploring “conversional justice through the lens of reparations.”

“I invited His Holiness to make an apostolic visit to Ukraine. Such a visit would bring real hope to all believers and to all our people,” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on X.
