The opening ceremony of the Paris Olympic Games—a sports festival aimed to unite all nations of the world—created shock and disbelief instead as Catholics around the world felt offended by the parody of the Last Supper, which was part of the opening ceremony.

Bishop Andrew Cozzens, who spearheaded the three-year National Eucharistic Revival, said, “I felt a great fullness of God, one I prayed that everyone would be filled with.”

The 58-year-old Portuguese Cardinal José Tolentino de Mendonça is widely recognized not only as a poet but also as one of the leading intellectuals of the Roman Curia.

“The budget of an organization reflects its priorities,” said retired Des Moines, Iowa, Bishop Richard Pates, who previously chaired the international justice and peace committee.

“Policies that criminalize homelessness are a direct contradiction of our call to shelter those experiencing homelessness and care for those in need,” said Archbishop Borys Gudziak said.

With all due respect to the leadership, I believe the U.S. bishops’ conference is quietly taking extraordinary actions that curtail our sacred social mission.
