Congratulations to America editors James Martin, S.J., and Kerry Weber, who double-teamed the Christopher Awards today. Jim Martin earned his for Jesus: A Pilgrimage (Harper One/Harper Collins Publishers), and Kerry Weber won in the same “books for adults” category with Mercy in the City (Loyola Press).

Excerpts from both books were featured here at America. Take a look below and read more about the Christopher Awards here.

Take Up Your Cross by James Martin, S.J.: Other Christians may focus more on, say, the Incarnation—how God became human, how God understands us in the most intimate way possible. Others may center their discipleship on the Beatitudes as a template for the Christian life and a guideline for their actions. These are all important aspects of the life of Christ. But the Resurrection is my spiritual center. Every day I return to that theme—or, more broadly, to the story of the death and resurrection.

Podcast: "On a Journey with Jesus"

Making Room: Managing Editor Kerry Weber on committing to a lifestyle—and lifetime—of mercy.

Also a Mercy podcast.
