Jesus was a ''mensh'' who stood toe to toe with the religious authorities and challenged them to a new vision of God and of themselves and of the Kingdom. He was courageous, did not let anything get away from him and he was in touch with his feelings and expressed them. He told the truth. I often think that the dynamic emotional energy to be in the world as he was came out of his relationship with the most important man in his life, Joseph. I imagine they must have disagreed and argued points in the Torah. I can't help but think that the first challenge to Jesus vision came from Joseph and that their debates helped sharpen Jesus message and was a source of his confidence in confronting and challenging others from the rich young man to the Pharisees who were always out to get him and who finally did. But that is not the end of the story, as we well know.
