Guess who the Archdiocese of Brooklyn got to pitch their new television network, New Evangelization Television (to be available on the net, too, in a few weeks).  Our friend Greg Kandra, over at The Deacon’s Bench, is part of this new venture, which, we hope, will resist all of Satan’s empty promises, as well as his pomps.

Evagrius Ponticus (345-399) was the first theologian of mystical theology in the Christian tradition. From time to time, I read from 'The Praktikos' or 'Chapters On Prayer'. A little of Evagrius goes a long way. Evagrius often refers to demons. I know some people might have a problem with that type of language. Even if there are no demons, it is a very apt metaphor for who or what tempts me. It is also an apt description of me when I am selfish. I recommend John Eudes Bamberger's, OCSO translations of Evagrius. It can be found at Cistercian Publications.

So if the Archdiocese of Brooklyn were to find that this fun and snappy ad campaign has boosted viewship of its television network and were to randomly poll viewers, would the respondent claim that 'the devil made me do it'?
