The Anchoress, over at her blog, has been welcoming people to an online vespers service, in which she accompanies the listener through the church’s evening prayer.  In this one she gives a little "homilette."  It’s another clever new way to pray online.  If St. Paul were alive today he’d probably have a blog.  See what you think.

The Camaldolese (OSB Cam and Er. Cam)are the only religious order(s) in the Roman Catholic Church canonically permitted to have anchorites. In recent years New Camaldoli Hermitage in the Big Sur, California had two canonical anchorites. They have died in recent years. The last one to die was Fr. Joseph Diemer, OSB Cam. He died on April 8, 2005 after decades in reclusion. Today there is a canonical anchorite in reclusion at the Monte Rua Hermitage (Monte Corona Camaldolese) outside Padua, Italy. He is Japanese and his name is Fr.John Mary, Er.Cam. There is also an anchorite living at Holy Family Hermitage in Ohio. He originally is from Columbia and his name is Fr. Nicholas,Er. Cam. This means that there are two canonical anchorites in the world.

What a fun, delightful and wise anchoress. This is a great site. Thanks for letting us know. I try to remember that messiness can be a gift because messiness keeps us going.

An immediate and permanent cease-fire would leave Hamas and its military capabilities in place in Gaza. In such a scenario, who will protect Israeli citizens from continued acts of terrorism?
