America Associate Editor Jim Martin, S.J., has been interviewed by Catholic Digest. Fr. Jim talks about his new book, A Jesuit Off-Broadway, which chronicles his experiences as a "theological adviser" during the production of the Public Theater’s The Last Days of Judas Iscariot:
CD: So what did you learn from the actors? MARTIN: I think that not to categorize people’s spiritual lives as either empty or full. Everybody’s on a path, and that was just a reminder of that. I became more aware of how exposure to the story of Jesus can affect people in different ways. I also learned a lot about their hard work. We tend to stereotype actors and actresses and people in theater as leading charmed or privileged lives, and that’s not the case at all.
Catholic Digest also interviews playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis and members of the cast. For those of you on Facebook, check out pictures from Fr. Jim’s book party on our "Friends of America" group page. Tim Reidy
