Too many voices are not being heard in the Catholic Church today.

The Gloria Purvis Podcast is a new podcast from America Media hosted by radio personality and Catholic commentator Gloria Purvis. The podcast centers the opinions, stories and experiences of individuals who have been marginalized in the Catholic Church and in society. A consistent ethic of life informs the conversations and honestly critiques narrow applications of church teachings or ideological attitudes. It's all about fostering a culture of charitable dialogue around the most complex and contentious issues in the Catholic Church today. Read the official press release below.

COMING SOON “THE GLORIA PURVIS PODCAST”

NEW YORK, NY, May 11, 2021—America Media announced today the launch of a brand new weekly podcast hosted by Gloria Purvis.

“We’re starting this podcast because too many people are not being heard in the Catholic Church,” says Purvis. “Collectively, we need a broader understanding of what it means and what it looks like to be Catholic today, and that includes the perspective of a Black Catholic woman like me.”

The podcast will discuss current events and complex topics at the intersection of the church and society in an accessible way, and feature a variety of guests speaking candidly about life, the church, their joys and struggles, dreams and anxieties.

“We’re going to be creating space for conversations that many people haven’t considered before,” says Sebastian Gomes, the podcast’s executive producer. “Listeners will learn something, they will be challenged and even have fun at times.”

The show will expand America Media’s robust podcast network. “I decided to collaborate with America Media on this podcast because they aren’t afraid to host real conversations,” says Purvis. “They told me, 'Gloria, we want to make this happen. Be yourself.'”

At a time when it can seem like Catholicism is devolving into various political ideologies, this podcast will start from the core Catholic belief in love of God and neighbor. “I’ve been on both sides. Some people consider me a conservative, some people consider me a liberal,” says Purvis. “But, like so many other Catholics out there who don’t agree on everything, I’m a loyal daughter of this church. I’m just Catholic.”

Episodes are currently in production and listeners can subscribe and hear the trailer on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, and other podcast apps. All updated information about the podcast can be found at americamagazine.org/gloriapurvispodcast.
