Sister Maureen is a wise, thoughtful and insightful woman -- a voice that needs to be heard.

Bravo Sister Sullivan for a breath of fresh air in the same spirit of Pope John XXIII. It is both encouraging and uplifting that we have such voices in our Church today. Indeed, collegiality needs to be fully implemented so that our Church can continually develop a better understanding of our faith. We need a better way to evangelize and to develop convincing moral theories that are meaningful to those members of the Church who have been disenfranchised, confused by seemingly unreasonable answers to the many moral dilemmas and conflicts that plague us throughout the world. We need the truth for the divorced and remarried who are denied reconciliation and the Eucharist, seropositive husbands that want to use a condom to protect their spouse from a deadly disease, women whose life is threatened with certainty by a pregnancy where the fetus cannot survive under any circumstances, inside or outside the womb, and whether the answer to this moral dilemma is to let two die with certainty rather than to save the life of the mother, or whether it is intrinsically evil for married couples to take the anovulant pill after having 2-3 children and want no more for good reasons but would accept a child born by accident into their families with unconditional love. These are just a few of the problems that have caused many Catholics to leave the Church or stop practicing their faith.

I have heard Maureen several times, as she teaches at a college near me. Her commitment to Vatican II is a breath of fresh air, and she brings a message of genuine hope. NCR has found a great source. Let us hear more.
