About America Media
America Media interprets the church for the world and the world for the church. We are a forum for discussion of religion, society, politics, and culture from a Catholic perspective. The Ignatian traditions of “finding God in all things” and the promotion of justice shape our commentary. Founded in 1909 by the Jesuit order and directed today by Jesuits and lay colleagues, America Media is a resource for social analysis and spiritual renewal, guided by the spirit of charity.
About the Role
The Editor at Large is a prominent Jesuit leader whose work spans America Media, Outreach, and additional ministries within the Society of Jesus. We are seeking a highly organized, proactive Executive Assistant who can serve as this leader’s primary support —triaging requests, protecting the executive’s time, and ensuring
seamless coordination across editorial, pastoral, media, and public-facing commitments.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a mission-driven environment, communicates with clarity and warmth, and can manage a fastmoving flow of priorities with exceptional judgment.
Key Responsibilities
Executive Support & Triage
-Serve as the primary gatekeeper for the Editor at Large, assessing and prioritizing all incoming requests, invitations, and inquiries.
-Exercise strong judgment to determine urgency, relevance, and appropriate next steps.
-Draft, edit, and send correspondence on behalf of the executive with professionalism and pastoral sensitivity.
-Maintain confidentiality around sensitive communications and ministryrelated matters.
Scheduling & Coordination
-Manage a dynamic digital calendar including travel, media appearances, pastoral engagements, editorial meetings, and public events.
-Coordinate all travel logistics (flights, hotels, itineraries) and ensure the executive is fully prepared for each engagement.
-Liaise with institutions, parishes, universities, and media outlets to confirm details for speaking engagements and appearances.
Media & Event Support
-Respond to media inquiries and coordinate interviews, livestreams, and other media hits.
-In partnership with the Production staff in house, coordinate technical setup planning, practice sessions, and troubleshooting for online events.
Editorial & Publishing Assistance
-Support book production tasks, including communication with agents and publishers and assisting in the editing process.
-Track deadlines and coordinate editorial workflows related to America Media and Outreach.
Communications & Social Media
-Monitor social media accounts to ensure appropriate content and timely responses.
-Assist with drafting responses to inquiries, comments, and pastoral requests.
Administrative Operations
-Manage documentation for speaking engagements (MOUs, contracts, invitations, etc.).
-Prepare and mail books, letters, and materials via USPS, FedEx, or UPS.
-Maintain organized digital and physical files.
-Oversee the executive’s travel and expense workflow end‑to‑end, ensuring all submissions are accurate, properly documented, and completed on schedule.
Other Duties
-Provide flexible support across all ministries and projects as needed.
Qualifications
-1 – 3 years of executive assistant or highlevel administrative experience preferred.
-Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to manage shifting priorities.
-Strong writing and communication abilities.
-Confidence to exercise mature judgment and discretion, triage incoming requests and make informed decisions that protect the executive’s time and advance key priorities.
-High discretion and professionalism.
-Comfort with digital tools, social media, scheduling platforms, and basic media tech setups.
-Familiarity with Catholic contexts or Jesuit ministries is a plus.
