“Am I a Christian in name only, on the path of lies? Or am I a Christian on the path of life, that is, of works, of actions?”

Pope Francis reflected on God’s reality and the “fakeness” of so many Christians who treat the faith as though it were window dressing.

During Ash Wednesday Mass, the pope focused on the theme of mercy as we begin the season of Lent.

The most beautiful inheritance we can leave to others is the faith.

“The destiny of that holiness which God gives to his children, gives to the Church, comes through the humiliation of his Son.”

Everyone sins, Pope Francis said, but sin turns to corruption when we begin to feel we have no need of forgiveness.

The Christian heart is magnanimous. It is open, always. It is not a heart that is closed in on its own selfishness.

If a bishop does not pray and does not announce the Gospel but is concerned with other things, God’s people suffer.

Pope Francis says God looks beyond appearances and into the heart.
