The bishops’ vote for the head of the education committee could be crucial, as Catholic schools around the nation struggle with changing societal norms around sex and gender.

In a wide-ranging interview, synod member Catherine Clifford discusses seminary formation, the authority of bishops and what’s needed to move beyond the ‘divergences’ that emerged at the synod.

“We cannot say there are bishops who are on the left and ones that are on the right. This is a false analysis,” said Cardinal Pierre, apostolic nuncio to the United States.

Catherine Clifford, an ecclesiologist and North American voting member in the Synod on Synodality, joins Colleen Dulle, the host of “Inside the Vatican,” in Rome to discuss the synod's implications for church structures and hierarchy.

“We can’t go backward,” Cardinal Robert McElroy told America’s Vatican correspondent Gerard O‘Connell at the end of the first session of the Synod on Synodality.
