From all reports, Speaker John Boehner and President Barack Obama seem to agree that a budget seeking to avoid the fiscal cliff must send the rich empty away. (They don’t see eye to eye on exactly who the rich are, or how empty they should be sent away, but they are getting closer on those questions.) However, particularly in such a difficult labor market, a just budget settlement must also fill the hungry with good things. The US Conference of Catholic Bishops is urging American Catholics to “Tell your senators and representative that programs serving working poor families must be protected from the "fiscal cliff." In discussing the various proposals, programs that help families escape poverty and live in dignity should be strengthened.” If you agree, you can visit their site and send a message to your legislators.
